OPTOMAN Introduces New Non-Degrading UV Optics
The Challenge In laser systems, catastrophic damage is often easy to identify and diagnose. However, there’s a more subtle yet equally destructive issue that can go unnoticed: the fatigue effect. This phenomenon gradually decreases the Laser-Induced Damage Threshold (LIDT) of optical materials after prolonged exposure to laser pulses, leading to a decrease in the overall performance of the laser system or even downtime. Unfortunately, this critical issue tends to be underestimated or even ignored. For example, a company may invest in standard UV mirrors that initially seem perfect for their system. Yet, after just 2,000 hours of operation, the laser system may face unexpected downtime due to the color degradation of the optics, resulting in costly repairs and delays. This scenario, which could amount to €10,000 in expenses, can be avoided with the right choice of optics from the start. OPTOMAN’s Solution Acknowledging this problem and the fact that the aforementioned fictional case is common in the industry, OPTOMAN developed Ultrafast UV laser optics that can withstand > 10,000 hours of laser irradiation, preventing downtime of the laser system. This achievement ensures that even after prolonged exposure to extreme Ultrafast UV light, the IBS-coated laser optics not only maintain the necessary parameters - consistent spectral performance and high Laser-Induced Damage Threshold (LIDT) — but are free of the color change effect. Moreover, this capability ensures better coating thermal conductivity. Why It Matters The introduction of Non-Degrading UV Optics offers several key benefits to laser system manufacturers and operators: ● Extended Optics Lifespan ● Reduced Maintenance Costs ● Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) In-stock options are also available on OPTOSHOP.
