SPIE believes in the development of collaborative environments that value participation from individuals with different ideas and perspectives, which ultimately have a positive impact on the science of light. Our programs reflect these core values. At our events, both in person and online, we aim to provide resources, guidance, and education to build a more inclusive optics and photonics experience for all our attendees.

Technology flourishes from the exchange of diverse ideas, and SPIE will strive to provide open and inclusive forums that maximize the potential for innovation and collaboration. We will seek to improve the quality of technical discourse through diversity of participants — diversity in age, experience, geography, heritage, identified gender, race, sector, sex, sexual orientation, and other characteristics.
