Integrated III-V devices for dual-comb spectroscopy in the mid-IR (Invited Paper)

29 January 2025 • 9:40 AM - 10:10 AM PST | Moscone South, Room 307 (Level 3)

Abstract

Quantum walk combs have recently been found to be a robust method to obtain coherent and broadband mid-infrared (mid-IR) combs based on semiconductor and compact quantum cascade lasers (QCL). Together with the unique absorption characteristics of the mid-IR, this approach has great potential for spectroscopic sensing applications, among others. In addition, this approach can benefit from the remarkably low, broadband propagation losses of buried InGaAs/InP waveguides, and its homogeneous integration capability with QCLs.

Presenter

ETH Zurich (Switzerland)
Miguel did his initial studies at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain) and carried out his master's thesis at the University of Ghent (Belgium) under the supervision of Pr. Bart Kuyken (Gent) and co-supervised by Prof. Pablo Sanchis Kilders (UPV). Then, he moved to the C2N laboratory in France under the supervision of Pr. Delphine Marris-Morini to work on integrated SiGe waveguides operating in the mid-IR, and successfully demonstrating different building blocks such as supercontinuum generation, electro-optical modulation, or integrated FTIR spectrometer. In 2021 he joined Pr. Jerome Faist's group at ETH Zurich as a postdoc to continue his career in mid-IR integrated devices and develop high-performance waveguides and laser sources.
