What I do.
I am involved in interdisciplinary fields of biomedical and optoelectronic measurements. My research interests especially include noninvasive acquisition and processing of bio-optical signals. As a head of the Division of Metrology and Optoelectronics at Poznan University of Technology, I teach metrology, optoelectronics, biomeasurements, and medical imaging. I encourage my students to explore these complex interdisciplinary fields.

What I find exciting.
I enjoy being a mentor and helping the students to understand and discover the mysteries of engineering. It is also exciting to cooperate with young scientists who were brought up at our university. At first they were my graduate students and PhD students, today they are the members of my team. I am proud to see my "academic children" getting great new results. I also love learning new things. It is fascinating to understand the nature of interaction of light with biological objects. The opportunity to cooperate with physicians allows me to be involved in advanced clinical engineering. I am happy in both my family life and scientific career.

What I wish someone had told me.
Be brave and persistent. Try to find a mentor. Surround yourself with friendly people. Be very active in your professional life. Interact with your colleagues, attend conferences, give talks, and write papers. Cultivate your scientific interests as well as your hobbies. As a woman, it is possible to be a professor, wife, and mother. Sometimes it is not easy, but definitely possible! Always remember an algorithm: you dream, you act, you win. Where there's a will there's a way. Nothing succeeds like success. Lastly, it is important to have a good sense of humor and take great care of your looks.
