Profile Summary

Yuebing Zheng is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He holds the Cullen Trust for Higher Education Endowed Professorship. He did postdoctoral research in Chemistry and Biochemistry (with Prof. Paul S. Weiss) at the University of California, Los Angeles from 2010 to 2013. He received his Ph.D. in Engineering Science and Mechanics (with Prof. Tony Jun Huang) from the Pennsylvania State University in 2010 and was a recipient of the Alumni Association Dissertation Award and Graduate School Alumni Society Early Career Award. His research group is at the forefront of optics and photonics, where they innovate optical manipulation and measurement to transform scientific research and tackle pressing global challenges. They aim to (1) push the boundaries of knowledge in light-matter interactions at the nanoscale; (2) develop cutting-edge optical manipulation and measurement technologies that leverage novel light-matter interactions, often enhanced with artificial intelligence and bioinspiration; and (3) apply these technologies, along with the new materials, devices and systems they enable, across diverse fields. They have been awarded the 2019 University Co-op Research Excellence Award for Best Paper, 2019 Department of Defense DURIP Award, 2018 Materials Today Rising Star Award from Elsevier Ltd, 2017 NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, the 2017 NASA Early Career Faculty Award, the 2017 ONR Young Investigator Award, and the 2014 Beckman Young Investigator Award. Yuebing is a Fellow of SPIE, a Fellow of Optica, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
