Photoacoustic spectral imaging (PASI) is an emerging diagnostics modality that reveals chemical and molecular contrast through pulsed optical excitation and ultrasound detection. PASI is highly valuable for medical applications requiring non-invasive, multi-biomarker high-accuracy spectral and spatial information. Imec builds on its mature product-grade integrated photonics technologies to develop integrated light sources, photodetectors and opto-mechanical ultrasound sensors (OMUS) that surpass conventional ultrasound sensors in their noise equivalent pressure, sensitivity, and bandwidth capability, paving the way for the next generation of photoacoustic systems.
