Barbara Krystyna Pierscionek in 2006 Women in Optics planner
Barbara Krystyna Pierscionek Professor of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Ulster Country of origin: UK |
I have always sought variety and versatility. there are few more varied professions than academia, and the university environment has permitted me to work and continue learning. this is definitely the most interesting aspect of my job. I have covered a number of disciplines: optics, biochemistry, biophysics, management, and recently law. In addition, my research area on the lens and cornea of the eye has demanded multi-disciplinarity. As these are both biological tissues and optical components, thorough understanding necessitates parallel research into optics and biochemistry. So I combine my optics research: ray tracing through eye lenses, probing ocular tissue with fiber optics sensors, with estimating protein proportions and growing cells. Optics remains the cornerstone of all my research projects.
